Philips HQ 6707 Cool Skin review

I got this shaver about 2 years ago, after having tried a Braun Activator. I’ll give you a quick review-in-a-review: I couldn’t get used to the Braun. It shaved close, but the neck area was plain impossible, cutting me at times, and I gave up on it.

Then I got the Philips Cool Skin, which is a lot, lot better. I really like having a wet shave with it, as I have somewhat sensitive skin, and this helps. Still, the Philips is not perfect. Cheeks, chin, these areas are easy, and come out really smooth and closely shaven. The neck area took me months to figure out, and it’s still pretty poor, and looks like I didn’t really shave it. I have to go round and round many times to catch all (well, most of) the hairs on my neck.

If you’ve never tried an electric shaver before, I highly recommend the Philips Cool Skin range. When the time comes to retire mine, I’ll probably end up just upgrading it.

P.S. The Nivea sachets you can use with it are nice, but really it’s not the best shaving gel (try the King of Shaves, or Real Shave Co ranges), and overpriced. The good news is that this shaver will work with anything, so you can keep your wet shaving habits!

Update:  I resisted doing this for the longest time, since it felt like going against the shaver’s strength, but I’ve finally tried using it dry for a bit, and I’ve found that this makes the shave quite a bit easier, and faster around the neck/adam’s apple. So I’d have to say that the Cool Skin is a brilliant idea if your facial hair doesn’t extend too far down your neck, like mine does.

Weider maximum protein drink review

I got one of these on a whim – I’d never tried a pre-mixed protein drink. I would go into the details (53g protein – can you even digest that much at one time?), but I never finished the damn thing.

Now, despite my whining in other reviews about taste, I’m really not a fussy eater. I just try to be critical when reviewing – there’s not much point saying “5/5, it was ok” for everything, is there ? But this… this thing was terrible. I don’t know whether the particular one I tried had gone bad (it wasn’t past its sell by date), but after one gulp I’d had enough. And I won’t be going back for a second try!

Met-Rx protein plus bar review

This is the first time I’ve tried protein bars, and I have to say, they’re not half bad ! I grabbed a bunch of these, with a variety of flavours; chocolate chunk, chocolate fudge, peanut something, mud pie… and they all taste pretty decent ! Obviously, this is good stuff for when you can’t have a shake, but want some protein anyway.

  • Protein content : 32g/85g. This is not the highest there is for bars out there, but it’s still pretty ok.
  • Bang for buck : You can pick up a dozen of these for £24.
  • Taste (5/5) : The taste is actually pretty good !
  • Digestion (4/5) : No problems digesting, but the bars are pretty chewy (some more than others).
  • Overall (4/5) : I’d give it a 5/5, but I haven’t tried any others yet, so I’m hesitant. Anyways, it’s quite a nice change from the shakes.
