Body Fortress Protoplex Deluxe MRP review
July 9, 2006
This is the first Meal Replacement Powder I’ve tried, and so far, the only one too. I got it because it was on sale at Holland & Barrett, and it looked like a good time to try a MRP. As I don’t really have anything to compare it to (other than whey shakes), my review may be a bit iffy. I’ve used both the chocolate and strawberry flavours.
- Protein content : Each sachet contains 44g of protein. That’s probably about as much as you can digest at a single meal anyway.
- Bang for buck : Pretty good if you get it during sale at H&B, because they can really slash prices.
- Mixability (3/5) : Mixes pretty ok, as long as you’re careful about it.
- Taste with water (3/5) : It’s quite ok, but slightly… weird. Just a bit too off to be natural, but it’s still quite easy to down !
- Taste with milk (?) : Haven’t tried. I use this product as my post-workout shake, so it’s always been with water.
- Digestion (4/5) : No problems.
- Overall : This MRP has a decent breakdown of the macro-nutrients, as well as the expected vitamins and minerals. I’ve enjoyed using it, but I highly doubt I’d get it again – I’m not sure if I need MRPs. On the other hand, if I catch another sale, who knows ?

I have been using Protoplex for almost 3 years now, there is no better way to build mass. Its contains alot of Magnesium and zinc which is meant to help keep testosterone levels up, which can be lowered when you train alot, it also contains l-glutamine, a great recovery product when you are training more than 3 times a week. In my opinion Protoplex is as good as cyclone, and when it is slashed to half price, you really then have value for money spent. Watch out fo the sales in Holand and Barret!

I’ve been using protoplex for around 5 years now and found that for the money you cant beat it (when its on sale) only 1 problem with it that makes me feel sick is, if you don’t drink it as soon as its ben made it starts to grow mold has anyone else noticed this?

I’ve just bought a tub from Holland and barret, it was on sale at 25 pounds.
I’ve taken about 4 different varieties of protein before and this is without a doubt the worst I have tried.
I followed instructions and mixed it with water ad it is so thick you couldn’t pour it down the drain without it blocking up your pipes. You probably do need a blender to mix this properly as my metrex cup can’t hack it.
Also it smells mildly of nuts, which I am allergic to and also mentions on the packet that it contains protein from nuts.
Not a very good product at all, avoid it and get something a little more expensive and better quality.

Been using this product for bout 2 years now and i think it is good value for money in the sale.
I drink this after training and thegym blend it for me with water, not tried with milk and don’t intend to.
Chocolate is real nice and it dont stay in glass long enough to grow mould.
Great product

It starts to grow mouild almost immediately – don’t know why and don’t know if this is unhealthy and likely to cause illness – H&B should investigate this.
It’s good vfm ONLY when in sale as other brands can be got at lower prices.
They’ve stopped making it in sachets whcih is the main reason I buy it.
Will buy other brands that produce them in sachets unless H&B start to produce it in sachets again.

I have been useing protoplex now for several months and im hooked. I have lost 90 lbs and i feel great. sometimes i get the vanilla so i can mix differant kinds of fruit or in the morning i mix cold coffee for my morning drink. I work out and walk but i havnt been real good at sticking with the working out and walking but as long as i take my protoplex it helps me stay on track and gives me energy and ive noticed it realy helps keep the hunger away. I would recommend protoplex to anyone because it is the one thing ive tried that has worked.

I bought the 1640 grams chocolate flavour on sale for £23. I didn’t do much research on it but I think its a meal replacement because it makes me feel really full. It tastes nasty though, I feel like puking everytime I take a sip of it. Is this product good for only building muscle because that is all I want and want to avoid gaining weight

it really helps with recovery time. i take the packets, and mix half with a pint of water, shaken. the whole pack is too much, my stomach gets a little overwhelmed!! just take the second half a few hours later. if you’re building lean mass, you want to be eating small meals, all day, so splitting a packet in half (or half serving) works great. people say to take a shake before bed: while sleeping, you can still absorb protein. i find this one doesn’t upset my sleep (again, half packet before bed) and i can still shit in the morning (often a problem when keeping your digestive system fully reved at all hours…tastes weird, but i’m sure that’s the vanadyl sulphate. and the jury is still out on that one…
people who feel nautious (like puking) when they take any meal replacement, is a sign of toxicity in your body. you are very acidic (most people are these days). acidity causes cancer. i’m not even gonna start here… there is so much info online to make your body alkaline… then you’ll never puke again…

…i hadn’t noticed the ‘mold’ that many had mentioned, that forms very quickly when left. i’m pretty certain that’s not mold!! it looks like little blue spots. mold doesn’t form that quickly, mold needs specific temperatures, usually a temperature change, and at least a little darkness. these form immediately in full sunlight… i think it’s a combination of things little the sulphate and the copper… this is some high school chemistry, and i’m 39, so i may be a little rusty…but i remember some experiments that produced quick color changes when chemicals are combined in a solution, like throwing this powder in your water shaker…
basically, i haven’t felt bad, and i’m getting hard, lean muscle tissue. don’t just count on any one product for protein…get your egg whites (6g protein in 1) or chicken breast (i boil them for 15-20 minutes. you’ll see extra fat come out of the meat on top of the water!! these have up to 45 grams in one).

I’ve found its great for recovery. It tastes great with milk. I’m a pretty thin guy, but have put on more lean muscle mass using this product than with anything else.

I have noticed what certainly looks like mold. They are quite large and appear within a minute of mixing with milk and a little slower with water.
I have emailed H+B and await their reply.

H+B reply.
The ‘greenish’ bits are most likely to be the copper and vanadyl sulphate which oxidise when in contact with air and is harmless.

i just spent 35 quid on this and am not too encouraged by some of the responses, just checked and you have to mix it with 500m of water or milk….i dont think my stomach can even digest that much! (my last whey protein only needed mixing with 200m) wish i just went to a gmc store and paid an extra fiver for cyclone.
